what doesn't anyone understand..their is only one person that is writing all this negative stuff about her....she has been a breeder for many years and always had healthy puppies....she is someone that takes very good care of her dogs and puppies...her house is spotless you wouldn't even know their were dogs in her house..so by you saying you heard things about her..you should meet her and talk with her before you assume things...

I have been hearing much about this Stacio breeder and I see that people who have dealt with her have nothing good to say about the way she conducts business. I guess this might be a heads up for anyone looking to purchase a puppy from this breeder.

I have 4 purebred Dachshunds and also encountered many and all the puppies I have are all purebred...

I'm an expert, I raised two Dachshund's and have encountered many of them over the years to know what is a purebreed and what is a mix.

give it a break already...they are all purebred dogs...it isn't about the money because if it was the puppies would be double of what they are....my dogs are all very well socialized with kids..they are not from puppymills..and another thing you never met me so don't judge me...if you spoke to me and saw my dogs then you would think differently...

I am looking for a purebred mini dachshund puppy in NY area. Any suggestions? I e-mailed Liz Stasio, Stasio Quality Dachshunds to inquire if she had any pups. Never heard back from her. After reading the past discussion board, I am glad she never called me. I would never want to support a business that buys from a puppy mill and disguises themselves as a home breeding business.

I do agree with what you are saying. She stuck this women with a sick puppy and it seems like she never tried to settle with her. I really don't understand how a business person can do something like this. If she don't want to lose her business completely, than I think she would be wise to fix this matter.

The breeder has done nothing but lie. Look at the problems she caused with the people she sold the puppies too. I would never recommend her to anyone wanting to purchase a puppy. From what I can see, she never solved the problem with that person called Prinny. Why not?

The "lemon" comment really brings it down to a whole new low.
As far as where Liz gets the other puppies from, she clearly states on her website that she gleans from other breeders. Nowhere does she claim that all the dogs are bred on premises.
If you naysayers follow the news at all, and see what conditions in a kennel have to exist to shut it down, you have to know that there's no way Stasio facility comes close to that category.

I posted a statement earlier: I saw with my own eyes the Vet diagnoses and the sick puppy with Giardia, HIGH GRADE 3+. The Vet also stated the puppy was BORN WITH LUXATING PATELLA IN BOTH HIND LEGS. She emailed Liz Stasio the Vet medical records stating these diagnoses. Unlike Stasio who refused to give Prinny the puppies Vet health records and never has. She sold Prinny a sick contagious dog. Stasio refuses to refund. She should be professional and refund her money. Stasio sold her a LEMON.

I have been following this story for day's now. She has e-mailed and sent the papers. I am sure this women is not stupid. It would not make any sense. If she is looking to get reimbursed, than why not follow procedure. Again, from what I am reading, this women has tried in every way to settle this dispute. Maybe the breeder is lieing. Did you ever think of that.

Oh my God, what kind of a breeder are you. Do you know that this person can contact the Better business Bureau and the NY State Attorney General's office and perform an investigation. I would watch out if I were you.

I think that if you don't want your reputation ruined any more than it has from what I am reading, I think you should do the right thing and work something out. You know by law, this person can take you to court and win. From my law experience she would be able to get all her money back plus keep the dog. I would do the right thing if I were you.

When you "google" (or ask a vet) about Giardia, this is the kind of answer you get:

I was shocked when I logged into "Discussion" and read these awful posts against Liz. Hers is the cleanest kennel
I have ever seen, and her own dogs live there, happy and healthy.

Giardia is NOT a common disease of puppies - or adult dogs for that matter. It is usually acquired from contamninated water, that is water carrying the organism that has been shed by other animals. How could a young puppy, in mid-winter no less, acquire Giardia, which causes severe diarhea and other interstinal problems, unless it was exposed to other animals carrying Giardia? And since people can get Giardia also, it is surely a question of public health that there is active giardia in mid-winter in Brooklyn.

This anonymous ranting and name calling is worse than the idiocy that is posted on the AOL reader-comment pages, only minus the bad spelling.

Liz Stasio sold me a sick dog too in 2009. She said it was nothing. Meanwhile I spent $375. on Vet bills. I hope more people come forward. Thank you.

My experience (and according the testimonials on her web site of which one is mine) with Liz has been totally antithetical to what these dunning accusations are insinuating. I got a healthy,beautiful, happy puppy from Stasio who was and continues to be in good health. Giardia is a common illness in puppies..any web site will tell you that not only is it common, it is typical.
As far as the luxation goes, I find it hard to believe if Liz had a written note from a vet that she would refuse to take the dog back.

If the dog Prinny bought was so healthy, than why did the Vet from Bideawee say that the dog has medial luxation in both stifles which is congenital also has a parasite called Giardia.

I was recently contacted by the owner of 2 purebred Dachshunds. Her son had developed severe allergies and she needed to remove the two dogs from her home. I am currently fostering them, but need to find a permanent home for them. They are up to date on all shots, already neutered, very friendly, and extremely bonded to one another. My name is Toni Gossard and I am the founder of the National Dachshund Races in Findlay Ohio. The N.D.R is entering its 10th season. The National Dachshund Race is the safest family attended event designed solely for family fun and to also raise funds for many charities. The races have been in a movie (Weiner Takes All), many newspapers and magazine written reviews. The latest one is in Dach.world.com.



The National Dachshund Races will be starting to book dates for this upcoming years circuit races. This circuit is entering its second year.

The group must give a percentage to the charity of their choice. All the rules that I have set up as a condition of joining our circuit, must be followed. So volunteers on your end will be needed!

This year the races will have a brand new look with all new equipment. Our new green carpet will be painted like a football field and our custom made (for YOUR COMPANIONS SAFETY); starting gate is state of the art and one of a kind.

Does anyone know what the smallest dachshund in the world is? I have wee bit of a full-blood minature dachshund who is over a year old and weighs just under 4 pounds about 15 inches long and 6 in all. Sure she's small, but is she the smallest you have heard of? Thanks

Yesterday at 3:40 PM my best friend Sabrina was peachfully put to sleep in my arms. She's been in our lives for 18 years and almost 3 months, born August 26 1991. As you can imagine a part of my life left along with her. We're now living outside Atlanta after she spent her first 17 years with us in Little Falls New Jeresy. She started attending the Spring and fall festivals in 2001 when we discovered them. Her last meal was Filet Mignon and a chocolate milkshake. I never saw her so content after eating that. I'm so happy I didn't prolong her until she couldn't emjoy eating. The sun was shinning and it was 75 yesterday and I spent the day with her on me in my recliner or out in the yard. It was a beautiful ending for a beautiful dog.

Hello! I live in Nassau County on Long Island. I have a sweet dachshund puppy who loves the yard but barks up into the trees at the squirrels etc... It is a nuisance and is ruining his summer as he then has to come inside. I really don't know how to explain to him that he can be outside and have his fun...but not bark so much! To the person worrying about expressing their doxie's anal glands: I was taking my girl to the vet every three months or so to have her glands expressed. The vet showed me how to do it and I've been taking care of her problem for many years now. There's nothing to it - your vet can show you how. My vet said to imagine a clock - the glands are right inside at about 5:00 and 7:00. You only need to insert your finger up to the first joint. The glands feel like a pea and you simply sort of "milk" them with a gloved finger with mineral oil on it. You need to cover your dog's butt area with a piece of gauze or papertowel as the stuff clogging the glad squirts out. Sounds a little gross but it is worth comforting your pet.

I have a standard smooth haired daschund called Kizzey who is 17 months old. We have had her for one year now and she has always beem nervous and timid towards other people and barks alot at them. In the last month she has started to charge at other dogs and people and bite them. She gets plenty of exercise and attention but it is becoming very worrying. I am getting an adult female dachshund who hasn't ever lived in the house. What do I do to make the transition easier for her and as comfortable as possible? I know she will see and hear things (tv, washer/dryer, vaccum)she never has before. Why are the piebalds not accepted by some breeders/handlers? I know the dachshund standard allows any color, even though it perfers certain ones.I have talked to breeders and judges who have very strong views against the pies, but why is that?

Linda from Missouri---I feel your pain! We had to put out dachshund down on Dec 15, 08. He was completely eaten up with cancer, and the vet advised that there was nothing else better that we could do than put him at peace. While that whole in my heart will forever hurt, I am sure, I know that he had a wonderful and HAPPY life while with me and my husband. We were all 3 best friends. It's hard to deal with---you are in my prayers!!

Just wondering if anyone can give some feedback or information on a dachshund that has a crooked spine (at the end of her back around her tail area). She is 3 months old, and we are looking into adopting her. I am just concerned that she will require extra/expensive vet visits (aside for the regular ones). My Baron died in my arms 4 days before Christmas many years ago. I since then have rescued a white shepherd, a 3 tweenie doxies. I have a dachshund that is almost a year old. At about 6 months of age he developed the same problem with peeing all over when you try to pick him up or even when you raise your voice. Anytime he thinks he is going into his crate or when anyone else comes into the house and tries to pet him he pees everywhere. We really do not know why he does it. It is starting to get really irritating! If anyone has any suggestions on how to correct this problem please let me know!!

I have a dachshund that has always had a problem with excited peeing. We got him at 8 weeks old and I had finally talked my husband (after 10 years of begging) to get a house dog. We found Stud and fell in love. But every time we would bend down to pet him or even just talk to him he would pee. Sometimes he rolls over and just pees all over my girls (shoots it straight up into their face or on their clothes) and sometimes he just pees while you are petting him. Because of this, he is now an outside dog, and my husband will not let him inside even for a moment. We tried the potty pads, kennel training, and he has no problem going on the pad and not going while he was in the kennel. The minute he would hear us, he would pee in the kennel or he would pee when you went to open the door on it. I know it is just because he is so excited, but this has really devastated the whole family. My husband won't have anything to do with him. My kids don't go outside alot because of the heat so I feel he is really neglected. It is going to be winter soon and he will be out in the cold. I really feel terrible about this. He does really enjoy the outside though, so this does help give me some peace of mind. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Dear "I am fixing to get an 8 week dapple" No, the blindness hit that one dog. Your dog will not go blind! When dapples and piebalds are created and I call it creation because what happens is that the gene pool will throw down a color from the female and a color from the male - kinda like poker and you go around the table to each person to play a hand. If it matches its kept, if it is dominate it is kept. It takes a genetic blindness gene to be genetically blind. The blindness gene would have to be given to THAT dog. It is kind of like the crooked tail gene. One dog out of 20 bred will hit a crooked tail gene of it is present because it takes 8 times hitting it before it will show up. Same with blue eyed dachsunds; if you have a dog with a left blue eye and bred with a dog with a right blue eye - your chances of getting a piebald with a red eye and blindness is very great - BUT it is very very rare to get two blind dogs in a litter - almost impossible according to genetics. Sabrina our standard short-haired was born on August 26, 1991. She was purchased from a pet store in a mall for our son's 12th birthday. We're planning our 4th annual birthday party for her that we started when she turned 14. Our neighborhood in Little Falls NJ is filled with dogs and 6 Dachshunds. As the matriarch of the neighborhood, Sabrina has slowed considerably and rarely leaves our front yard. She enjoyed the festivals in Washington Square for many years starting when our daughter started at NYC when we discovered them. She missed last April's, but was there last October.

Hi Everyone- I'm Leila, the owner of a precious black and tan Dachshund. She is 9 years old and a little overweight. Over the last year she has been getting small lumps on her skin. The Vet has checked them and advised that they are really only age spots, and as long as they don't change in appearance and are not bothering Shelby not to worry. I was just wondering if there is anything out there that can be applies to these bumps to shrink them. Some of the ones that she had on her side have dried up and flaked away but then they appear somewhere else. Other than this skin problem, our precious Dachshund Shelby is our pride and joy. She gives us pleasure everyday being around her, and keeps us on our toes, awaiting her next little antic. Every dog owner should experience having a Dachshund.

My lovable 2 year old doxie named Paolo has a fetish for tearing-up any soft toys or arm chairs, even though he has many other chew toys. We removed furniture from the room where he lives and plays. The correct way to carry a dachshund is your arm under the sturnum to the right or left jaw. Or rather...hold left or right arm like an X across their chest. Let their feet find a place on your hip if they are big enough so they feel like they have some comtrol. Never pick up a dachshund by their arms or even let a dachchund continually jump up on a dog gate and strain to get over something with their from arm. They will sprain and pull a muscle in their neck. Any time that you feel their muscles pull against you there is a risk of pulling a muscle. Their torsos are elongated and muscles can get harmed and you not even realize why they are just irritable. The solution for a pulled muscle in a dog is to take them to the chiropractor. Call them ahead of time and make an appt! It should not cost but what it would cost you to get a re-adjustment! Mine charges $10 and it takes like 10 mins and the dog absolutly loves it! The way to correct a dog peeing and acting submissive is to put a talking book on tape or cd where they sleep. A calming voice playing over and over will make them realize that all voices and people are comforting. I know it sounds strange but it is the noises that make them submit. Like when you come in the door they are unsure if what is going to "happen next." The continual playing of a tape will make them to calm down and find a stable sound to make them secure.
