Thanks again, Stephanie are there any events in Los angeles? are there any events in Los angeles? can someone please advise if the dachshund spring festival is still taking place 4/26 with all the construction going on? Washington Square Park is undergoing extensive renovation. Will the fest be able to happen? To the person who has a 4 month old with bald spots. Within a few weeks of getting my dachsie she developed a bald spot on the top of her head. It was Mange and was successfully treated with Ivermectin. We first tried dips and antibiotics. They made her sick. OK - life goes on. I understand your feelings. It feels like people think you don't take of your dog when they see them. It is embarrassing and you feel like you have to explain the whole problem. The dog doesn't care. I felt like people wanted to pull their dogs away in case it was contagious. Off and on throughout the years Ali has had areas where the hair would fall out, the skin would turn black and have a smooth feel. We tried everything - allergy shots, diet change, baths, antibiotics, steroids. Nothing really worked. The Vet said the black skin was secondary to a bacterial infection. The spots would show up and then disappear for years. They showed up again 6-8 months ago. This time I did nothing. They stopped, and then after 4 months the hair just grew back in. Skin allergies can be one of the most trying problems. The dog really isn't "sick". Just looks bad. Now I have babbled on. Ali is 14 now. Full coated. Spunky as ever. I know I haven't helped you any but wanted to let you know there are are others out here. Try a different Vet. See a Canine Dermatologist. You can spend a fortune and get no results. You can ignore it. You have to do what feels right to you for the dog. Good luck - they will still love you just the same whether they have spots or not. Give her a big kiss - she loves you. I live in Glen Oaks in Queens and come into the city almost every weekend. I have a four year old fully, very fully grown dauchshund. Either can anyone tell me where my dog can meet others either in Queens or NY that are dauchshunds? Michael Are liver diseases in dachshunds common, is so are they treatable? Are liver diseases in dachshunds common, is so are they treatable? Does anyone know the definite date of the Spring Daschund Festival in NYC, Washington Square Park. Hi all, I recently purchased 2 dachshunds from a pet store (I've had three in the past.. Now I'm back at three.. what was I thinking?) I LOVE THEM!! after paying for them the store manager said she didn't think they were full blooded.. How can I find this out? It doesn't matter, But I'd like to know what temperment, genetics, etc come with the second breed if any. The only things that "don't" look like dachshund to me is white on their chest (not a lot) and possible longer ears. We've had standard and mini and over 7 years since I've seen a 6 week old dachshund puppy. My female mini dach has bald spots on each side of her head, also pretty furless underneath her mid section, shes always been that way, a breeder of dachs told me this was B/C of poor breeeding. But shes a sweet girl so we Love her just the same. My husband and I drove in from Franklin Lakes to the Jan. 26th springfest and no one was there and I might add it was really cold, and the park was under construction. Like WHAT HAPPENED? dianeofsussex@aol.com well, I hope that I was correct by assuming the Springfest in Manhattan was not today- it was freezing out! I hope I didn't miss it. I just watched a video on You-Tube that showed the Springfest last year- it looks like a great time! Maybe an update will be on this site soon as to the actual date. Hi. I live in NYC and would love to attend the Springfest. Could you confirm the date AND time? Thanks! please clarify date of washington square park event. I saw 2 dates - one on January 26, 2008 & one on April 26, 2008. THank you. I enjoyed your site. I thought I was a little crazy feeling as I do about about my doxie, Pepsi. She is my first pet and what a character- I never imagined a dog could have such personality. please clarify date of washington square park event. Before I make a 2 hour trip. And yes it will be 40F outside. Can someone get back to me about this date? manuelawf@comcast.net thanks Sorry...but I am confused...is the dachshund meeting Jan 26th, 2008? or was that a post from previous years? I would love to come, esp since I will be in the area for that time. Is the "Spring Festival" in NYC really being held on the 26th of January (the same date as the Winter festival in Miami)...or is this a misprint?? I always look forward to the events in April & October, but January seems a bit early (and probably also COLD for our short-legged friends). Anyway, just wondering if I should try to make arrangements to be there....and will anone ELSE be there, since it is so far off from the usual date?? Adrian - My husband and I met you on the street this evening and wanted to email you the name of the medicine we discussed for your friends dog but couldn't find your email on the site. The name of the medicine is Animax ointment. I hope this helps. Why is the "spring festival" in NY held in January?? hello, I live in Astoria, Queens NEW YORK CAN ANYONE RECCOMEND WHERE I could get a healthy standard smooth Dachshund. hello, I live in Astoria, Queens NEW YORK CAN ANYONE RECCOMEND WHERE I could get a healthy standard smooth Dachshund. I am hoping to take my daschunds on a 6 hour flight. I am worried they will bark constantly as they already do around unknown people. Is there a behaviorist in the area i can visit? I have a four month old dachshund puppy that had one very small bald spot on her head when I got her (she was 8 weeks old). With in the past month her fur has been falling out all over her head and her back and sides and on the back of one of her legs. So, she has bald polka-dots on her entire body. She has been tested for mange and the test came back negative. I feed her Nutro chicken, rice and oatmeal for puppies and have since I got her. Recently I read that some dachshunds have allergies to chicken. I do not know what to do?! The Vet does not seem to be concerned but I am! I also read today that most blue/dan dachshunds are usually bald by the time they are a little over a year old due to their coloring being part of a recessive gene in a black and tan parent. Her mom or dad was black and tan? I have had dogs for years but she is my first dachshund. I have a hairless chinese crested but I do not want a hairless dachshund. Please if you can help me figure out what is going on. I hate that she is going through this!!! Thanks! Ashley Dear Adrian (and readers), Did you know there's a new Broadway play that features a painting of a dachshund prominently on its program cover and in the show? It's "Is He Dead?", a forgotten farce written by Mark Twain and newly adapted by David Ives (of "All in the Timing" fame), playing at the Lyceum Theater. The comedy centers on a penniless artist (Norbert Leo Butz, of "Dirty Rotten Scoundrels") who realizes that once he dies, the price of his work will skyrocket. So he fakes his death, and that's exactly what happens. In fact, paintings not even by him but accidentally attributed to him - including one of a very, very long dachshund! - sell for astronomical sums. Alas, there's no live dog in the show, and no dachsies are mentioned in the second act, but it's an absolutely delightful comedy - and what better animal could they have picked for a show about art?
