Hi, I adopted Hershey, the 7 year old standard wire haired doxie listed as a rescue. I have found out his birthday, which is 1-1-2004. I am either trying to find the breeder or the vet who took care of him from his previous owner to obtain more info about him. Can anyone assist me? He was very well taken care of by his prior owner. I guess your @ it again..you really do not know what the hell your talking about when you say they over medicate their dogs you really have to be nuts...their dogs are wonderful and their puppies are well taken care of you on ther other hand just could not take are of the puppy and you needed an exsuse to return the dog...so do yourself a favor and stop putting lies out their and also stop putting their names on here because I am sure that you don't want your info on here...if you do not have the facts you really do not need to put stuff on here so enough is enough..and I hope that the puppy found a good home

Holidays are here and puppies are often bought as gifts.
Avoid buying from pet shops (puppy mills), instead go to Dachshund Rescue groups. Especially avoid from buying from the so called breeder who was proven to lie, buy from puppy mills and not breed, taken to court for selling sick pups and lost, proven to be an unlicensed seller of doxies by the Dept. of Agriculture & Markets. Elizabeth and Phil Stasio / Stasio Quality Puppies / Stasio's Dachshunds or whatever name they are going by now. They sell out of their living room in Bensonhurst Brooklyn, NY. They even use their car's license plate to advertise they sell Doxie pups. They over medicate their puppies they buy, instead of taking them to the Veterinary for proper care before selling them.

I had a problem develope with 2 males where the 'pup' ultimately fought his way to alpha over the older dachs. They never became friends. In 30 years this only happened once to me but it made our home life tense. I would never have given up either guy. We learned to anticipate, especially during meals. Since your pup is very young and new to your house, you might consider asking the breeder if you could exchange for a female. Mixed sexes normally get along---no alpha contest---female always tops.

Hi, I'm from Manila, Philippines and I'm a very proud owner of Dachshunds. I've had the breed since I was little. My family and I love the breed so much. However, I need some advice and looking at this site, I see a lot of people that could offer that advice. I've had my black short hair male since a year and a half ago and his name is Hendrix. He is so lovable and very active. He has a very good temper. However today, I got a new puppy from the same breeder I got Hendrix from. I got a brown one this time and decided to call him Bowie. So when I got home and slowly introduced Bowie to Hendrix, Hendrix's attitude changed. He was hostile towards the puppy. I've never seen this side of him before, Now I read that when first introducing a new addition, you must pay attention to the older dog too, which is what I did. So I let the puppy walk a bit to explore and Hendrix started pushing him roughly and nipping at him and barking. I am very worried as Bowie is only a month old. So for now, He is staying at my boyfriend's house until he gets to be a little older and not so fragile.. I really need help.. Is it impossible to have 2 male dachshunds in one house? and at what age would it be safe to re-introduce Bowie to Hendrix? and how do I stop them from fighting each other. I really need advice as I don't think I can handle heartbreak if one of them gets hurt. Please help. Thanks very much :)

HOW DOGGY DAYCARE LOST OUR DOG
--EVERY NEW YORK PET OWNER'S NIGHTMARE

hi, as a proud new yorker and doxie owner who regularly attends the "dachtoberfest" and spring fiesta every year, i want to alert you to break the news about what happened at doggy daycare, so every pet owner in NYC can avoid the nightmare we went thru.

my boyfriend and I are travelling, so we arranged for our 1.5 year old mini dachshund, Hazelnut, to stay in doggy daycare during the day (Camp Canine on 73rd and broadway), and our friends would pick her up at night and care for her afterwards.


Last Thursday, they went to pick her up at 7pm (during close) and the staff at Camp Canine said she ran away and was lost -- that a "customer left the door open and let her out", and the staff saw her run into Central Park nowhere to be seen, trying to chase her but to no avail. Mind you, this daycare has a "state of the art security system" according to their website and several doors to pass thru, plus a steep set of stairs to exit. Even more infuriating, the staff didn't even call us or our friends.


Our friends were beyond furious and bolted into Central Park calling her name over and over. That night there was heavy rain and thundering. No Hazelnut. Search continued, with trips to the police station, local pounds, "amber alerts" all over craigslist, 300 distributed flyers with Hazelnut's picture, etc. Long story short, the next day they got a call from a man who found her at 110th and riverside drive, over 30 blocks away from daycare (and several long avenues full of traffic). The poor thing was scratched up, one leg limping, trembling, hungry, and traumatized from spending the night all alone in terrible weather, most likely in the park.


The staff at Camp Canine refused to give us the video feed of the floor.They did post *one* flyer at the local animal center to "help." this speaks volumes about their "responsibility". The staff at CC gave up on the chase and obviously had the time to walk back to the office and delay the inevitable phone call, because it never came. Perhaps they were too scared. I can only guess at what happened, but no one knows for sure what really went on.

Nevertheless we are happy Hazelnut is safe and home now. Thankfully her injuries are not serious and she is doing very well.

Regretfully, in our haste we didn't check Yelp about Camp Canine. The one-star reviews and death of one dog say it all.


this story has a happy ending, but it could happen to anyone. Were it not for the heroic actions of our friends and witnesses, Hazelnut could have been lost forever.
This story also speaks volumes about the willingness of New Yorkers earnestly trying to help find her. Even now we still get calls from concerned citizens asking if we found hazelnut, via the flyers.

I'm writing to ask your help to spread the word about doggy daycare disasters, so no one has to go thru what we did.

Liz and her puppies and her grown dogs and her family are wonderful. I have a healthy 3-1/2 year old mini that I bought from her and board with her when I go on long trips.

I am having a problem with my dog Sadie. SHe is a standard red doxie. She started not eating/drinking like she used to and was not her cheerful self. I took her to the vet Twice thinking for a battery of blood work/urinallis/Pancrentitis test/and x-ray and they are stumped. SHe finially started eating and drinking again and he pepped up after she gets her antiinflamatory. but after that she has very wobbly hind legs and doesnt seem to have a lot of sensation in them. I am HYSTERICAL ! I want my dog back and I want to know what I can do to help her. If anyone has any suggestions please let me know. Thank you

Dear Andrea, I highly recommend though hard to find, to help your 2yr old doxi is a dog chiropractor. Also, an acupuncturist. In the mean time some ice then and heat on the effected area and gentle massage. Avoid your dog from stairs, jumping up and down off of things. All the best to you and your little one.

Hi My daughter has a dchshund with a back problem. The thing the vet told her was not to make him climb the stairs and jump on furniture. Also, she gave the dog ani-inflammatory pills. My daughter's dog is eight. Two is a little young to have a back problem.

About Mrs. Elizabeth Stacio. One of her former clients took her to court. Of course she never showed up. Her client won by default and this was last May 2010. Do you know that Ms. Stacio was ordered to pay her client by a court judgement and to this day completely ignored it. This is not the type of person you want to do business with. I also bought a dachshund from Stasio named Chip. He had some minor medical issues which I became aware of later and immediately had taken care of. Not a big deal really. We bought him the first time we came by and I have to say it was because we were really impressed with the conditions and environment that we saw while we were there. She had a few children and they were playing with the puppies in baby cribs on their porch of there beautiful home. The puppies seemed very healthy and playful. They had the best conditions that I have ever seen in NYC yet. They had a lot of other animals and aquariums in their house too. Well anyway, he is a beautiful heathy 2 year old boy now and my wife and I couldnt be happier. Remember Elizabeth, you cant please everyone. Good luck to you.

Thanks so much Greg....I appreciate it very much....their are many people that need to know that when you first bring a puppy into your house their are many different things that can happen...we always gave all our puppies all their vaccinations and kept them until they were 10 weeks old which by law we can let them go to their forever homes @ 8 weeks old....someone else also told me that that book helps alot....please stay in touch and thanks again..

I bought a puppy from Liz Stasio 2.5 years ago. His name is Murphy, black and tan male. He is a happy and energetic dog and we are constantly asked for information about the breeder. Our backyard is central park and he plays with every dog he sees. If the other dog ignores him he will attempt to kiss them until they notice him. We are really lucky to have such a good dog. Thanks Elizabeth for the service you offer and don't let this one person get to you. Puppies are delicate before they're fully vaccinated... especially in the city. Maybe you should give your customers a " dachshunds for dummies " book.. built into the price of course. It may sound like a joke but some people may not know exactly what they're getting into. I'm sorry for your loss of Jalapeno. I know vet bills could be expensive. I also believe that people who don't have the means to provide medical in case of an illness should not have pets. Also, your brother should be in jail for throwing this poor dog against the wall. He should be reported and never be able to adopt another animal. You knowing this, it is your responsibility to make sure he never does.

I'm DC. One year ago,my brother James brought me his dachshund asking for me to look after him. I took in this lovable little weenie named Jalapeno. He came to me at four months old and with broken ribs. Knowing James' abusive tendancies(having throen a previous doxie against a wall because it chewed his shoes) I was devastated. A few months passed and I had heard no word from James and thought that he didn't want his dog back. I then adopted him and called him Horhay Jalapeno on a Steeek. I bonded with him and he became my best friend. I loved him with all my heart and spoiled him like crazy. Jalapeno loved his Jalapeno cheetos, his toys, and his clothes. Two months after I decided that he was mine, my brother came back and said that he wanted him. I wouldn't let that happen. I had invested too much time effort and money into this buddy. Not to mention the love and affection that I felt for him was undying. On May 13th of this year, He started getting very sick. I thought he was going to be okay, but I was very scared for him. And I was very wrong that he would live his life. He bacame dehydrated even though I gave him water and chicken broth through a syringe. He would throw it back up and kept getting worse. on May 16th, I realized that he may have swallowed something and couldn't pass it. I took him to a vet only to find that the bill was far too much to pay. I took him home with a heavy heart and tried so hard to find other means of helping him. I tried talking to many different vets but none would show any compassion. That afternoon he bagan having malseizures. His head would shake back and forth and he would look at me as if saying "What's wrong with me daddy. I'm and Idon't know why. Help me." The vet had told me to take hime home and that he would have a 75% chance of making it over night. Later that evening, I was in my parents' guest bedroom playing with my nephew when I noticed Jalapeno start to convulse violently. He seized up. His head drew back and his mouth gaped open. I couldn't let him be like this. I broke my heart. On the ride back to the vet He had this look of terroron his face. I couldn't look at him. I didn't want to think about what was about to happen. I had to put him down. When I came back with my best friend that I would never see again, I found out that my nephew(three years old) had asked if he was dead. Now every time I go to see my parents, He always says "I miss my Jalapeno." I miss him too and am still upset over what happened. I'll never forget the way he looked at me on the way to his saving grace. Now I am lonely for that companionship and am desperatly seeking a moderatly young, lovable, energetic, and playful black and tan doxie.

She was a long-haired dapple dachshund -- I told her I would give her all the records from the vet, but she said the 1 year guarantee was only 1 year from when the dog was born, not 1 year from when you had the dog. And even if she were to give me another dog for FREE I wouldn't take it because this experience really was scarring for me. Not to mention a huge financial burden (which I was happy to do to try and save my dog)... but still...

I am in the east tennessee area and my female bl/tan mini dachshund was stolen right out of my yard on april 9th right out of my yard while my children were out with them... If any one has purchased a female with a crook in the top of her tail please post or if you know of any one who has recently come to own one fitting this description...... I miss my Anna(banana):(

I bought 2 Dachshunds from Stasio and I am the happiest and luckiest person that I found such a responsible and caring breeder....I can not believe that she said she would take $100 off a new puppy what she does is she gives you $100 or better off when you buy 2 puppies and it doesnt't have to be @ the same time....just wondering did you give her your vets info so she could talk to them because she is defintitely not a person to do that...

I'm not sure who the person is who has been posting negative things about Stasio's Dachshunds, but I too had a horrible experience with them. I was the happiest gal in the world when I got my dog from them. It was an easy transaction, their home was clean, and they were very helpful. A week later she had Giardia which was expensive to treat, but I did it anyway. I let her know not because I was angry but because I was afraid the other dogs had it. She had a great life, I provided an amazing home for her. When she was a year and a half old I rushed her to the hospital because she was foaming at the mouth. While at the vet, she started having seizures. Over $6000 later and the most heart-wrenching experience I have ever been through, the vets determined she had a genetic brain disease and needed to be put to sleep. I contacted Liz and she told me should would give me $100 off a new puppy. HA! As if I would ever give her any more of my money. This could be an isolated incident, but please be careful when you buy from them.

Yeah I bought one of those peticure contraption. She will not let me do it. I even tried to coax her with a treat but no way. So that was a waste of money. The battery runs down really fast also. Thank you for the suggestion

There is this nail buffing battery operated contraption to file the nails down on your dog and it does not hurt. Check it out on-line.

I was so upset that I did get to come to the fest but my daughter who was supposed to drive was ill & I am not one to drive in the city. It was one of the most dissapointing days of my live. Luckily it turned out to be one of the best. I found a little dapple daschund for my Amber that day and took her home the next day. I named her Zoey. She is just the cutest and amber luvs to play with her.

I looked up on the site you gave and called the New York State Dept of Agriculture and Markets.
LIZ STASIO has NOT HAD A LICENSE SINCE 2007.
Only two years she was licenced and she had a UNSATISFACTORY INSPECTION
because she did not even have her own dogs vaccinated for rabies. Her website was just up a few weeks ago.
So you are right. SHE HAS BEEN SELLING ILLEGALLY and WITHOUT ANY HEALTH INSPECTIONS.
STASIO HAS NO REGARD FOR THE LAW.

We bought two daushounds from Liz Stasio in December of 07. Both dogs are healthy,Full full of energy, and great with children. I would recommend them to anyone.

I am sitting here typing this with my little Dachshund Moose in my lap, whom I wouldn't trade for all the gold in Fort Knox. I bought him last July from Stasio's Dachshunds and couldn't be happier about the experience. He was a happy, healthy, well-socialized pup when I bought him and remains so to this day. When we went to their home to buy Moose I was very impressed with everything - the place was immaculate, all the pups were obviously very well socialized, and Liz and Phil couldn't have been nicer. Since we bought him, Liz has stayed in touch with us out of what seems to be a genuine concern for not only the dog that she sold us but also with us as customers and dog owners. I would recommend the Stasios to anyone looking to buy a Dachshund puppy. Liz and Phil seem to be genuinely good people and it saddens me to see them attacked like this.

After reading the past discussion board, I am glad she never called me. I would never want to support a business that buys from a puppy mill and disguises themselves as a home breeding business.

As far as where Liz gets the other puppies from, she clearly states on her website that she gleans from other breeders. Nowhere does she claim that all the dogs are bred on premises.
If you naysayers follow the news at all, and see what conditions in a kennel have to exist to shut it down, you have to know that there's no way Stasio facility comes close to that category.
Grow up, for heaven's sake.

She emailed Liz Stasio the Vet medical records stating these diagnoses. Unlike Stasio who refused to give Prinny the puppies Vet health records and never has. She sold Prinny a sick contagious dog. Stasio refuses to refund. She should be professional and refund her money. Stasio sold her a LEMON.

I have been following this story for day's now. She has e-mailed and sent the papers. I am sure this women is not stupid. It would not make any sense. If she is looking to get reimbursed, than why not follow procedure. Again, from what I am reading, this women has tried in every way to settle this dispute. Maybe the breeder is lieing. Did you ever think of that.

Oh my God, what kind of a breeder are you. Do you know that this person can contact the Better business Bureau and the NY State Attorney General's office and perform an investigation. I would watch out if I were you.

I think that if you don't want your reputation ruined any more than it has from what I am reading, I think you should do the right thing and work something out. You know by law, this person can take you to court and win. From my law experience she would be able to get all her money back plus keep the dog. I would do the right thing if I were you.

There are witnesses the pet owner provided this Stasio with the vet's evaluation. She should try to settle it professionally and refund her and the vet bills.

When you "google" (or ask a vet) about Giardia, this is the kind of answer you get:

Giardia is NOT a common disease of puppies - or adult dogs for that matter. It is usually acquired from contamninated water, that is water carrying the organism that has been shed by other animals. How could a young puppy, in mid-winter no less, acquire Giardia, which causes severe diarhea and other interstinal problems, unless it was exposed to other animals carrying Giardia? And since people can get Giardia also, it is surely a question of public health that there is active giardia in mid-winter in Brooklyn.

This anonymous ranting and name calling is worse than the idiocy that is posted on the AOL reader-comment pages, only minus the bad spelling.

Liz Stasio sold me a sick dog too in 2009. She said it was nothing. Meanwhile I spent $375. on Vet bills. I hope more people come forward. Thank you.

My experience (and according the testimonials on her web site of which one is mine) with Liz has been totally antithetical to what these dunning accusations are insinuating. I got a healthy,beautiful, happy puppy from Stasio who was and continues to be in good health. Giardia is a common illness in puppies..any web site will tell you that not only is it common, it is typical.
As far as the luxation goes, I find it hard to believe if Liz had a written note from a vet that she would refuse to take the dog back.

If the dog Prinny bought was so healthy, than why did the Vet from Bideawee say that the dog has medial luxation in both stifles which is congenital also has a parasite called Giardia.

My lovable 2 year old doxie named Paolo has a fetish for tearing-up any soft toys or arm chairs, even though he has many other chew toys. We removed furniture from the room where he lives and plays. Has anyone had success in training their doxie not to chew soft toys and/or furniture? We use bitter apple spray but to no avail.

The correct way to carry a dachshund is your arm under the sturnum to the right or left jaw. Or rather...hold left or right arm like an X across their chest. Let their feet find a place on your hip if they are big enough so they feel like they have some comtrol. Never pick up a dachshund by their arms or even let a dachchund continually jump up on a dog gate and strain to get over something with their from arm. They will sprain and pull a muscle in their neck. Any time that you feel their muscles pull against you there is a risk of pulling a muscle. Their torsos are elongated and muscles can get harmed and you not even realize why they are just irritable. The solution for a pulled muscle in a dog is to take them to the chiropractor. Call them ahead of time and make an appt! It should not cost but what it would cost you to get a re-adjustment! Mine charges $10 and it takes like 10 mins and the dog absolutly loves it! The way to correct a dog peeing and acting submissive is to put a talking book on tape or cd where they sleep. A calming voice playing over and over will make them realize that all voices and people are comforting. I know it sounds strange but it is the noises that make them submit. Like when you come in the door they are unsure if what is going to "happen next." The continual playing of a tape will make them to calm down and find a stable sound to make them secure.
